| Hot Hardware V9800 Review
“But the V9800 was impressive during GPGPU testing, as it came in 103% faster than the Quadro 5000, and 48% better than the 6000. Granted, SANDRA is a purely synthetic benchmark that neither AMD nor NVIDIA optimize their drivers for, it showcases the raw computing power of 1600 stream processors and massive amount of memory bandwidth found on this FirePro model. The card also provided a strong showing in Cinebench where it was 3% faster than the Quadro 5000, and only 7% slower than the 6000.”

“With its moderate price and excellent AutoCAD performance, as well as its relatively thrifty energy use, the ATI FirePro V5800 provides great value as a mid-range graphics card.”

Phoronix found great value in the FirePro V4800, noting that “[It] doesn't even cost half of what the V5800 is selling for, but its performance is respectable in comparison.” Furthermore, Phoronix’s Michael Larabel was impressed by AMD’s graphics drivers, stating “Already this year there has been two occasions where AMD has delivered major performance optimizations in their FirePro Linux / Windows driver. We tested these two drivers in March and July and found them to be very impressive.”

None of the specifications or performance results from the remaining new Evergreen-based FirePro cards are going to set records but AMD is doing to this market what they did to NVIDIA on the desktop market - set super-aggressive price/performance targets that NVIDIA will have trouble even coming close in matching. The new FirePro V5800 is a bargain at under $470 and the V3800 could set the professional world on fire selling for just about $100.

“In many ways, the V7800 delivered and workstation professionals should take note of what ATI was able to do with a single slot cooling solution.“
“The V4800 outperformed expectations during our real world testing. This affordable GPU did not perform like an entry level product.”
