Personalized design computer
“Ego Lifestyle has identified a growing tendency towards unique design needs within the computer industry. The ordinary computer has evolved from what was once a specialty product to a commodity product today. Competition in the computer market is driven by specifications and price, with a growing demand from users willing to pay a premium for a personalized design computer,” says Huub van den Boogaard, founder and chairman of Ego Lifestyle BV. “To meet this growing tendency towards design and personalization we developed Ego, a premium quality product, differentiated not only by its contemporary design and organic styling, but also by a high level of personalization provided by interchangeable, lifestyle-oriented skins”says Jeroen de Punder, Managing Director of Ego lifestyle BV. The notebook is aptly named the Ego. “It’s an ‘Easy Going’ device that lets consumers express their individual personality and mood by simply changing the stylish skins.”
Changeable skins and complementary accessories
The Ego utilizes a patented mass-production technology called the EXO overmolding system from Inclosia Solutions, which is designed to combine fabrics, leathers, metals with plastics in the mass production of electronic devices. The skins have been selected by designers and will become available in a selection of fabrics, leathers, and even Alcantara® suede versions along with traditional painted plastic Each Ego comes equipped with a EXOTM Metal clad USB flash drive with a unique cap design which aids in changing skins to your mood. In addition to the changeable/personalized skins and USB flash drive, the product is also expected to feature complementary accessories such as design bags, carrying straps and mice. The Ego will be available for purchase beginning in February 2006.

Working closely together with some great partners
With the unveiling of the Ego, the era of ubiquitous gray and silver notebook computer is finally receiving a much needed makeover. The Ego will become the world’s first line of lifestyle notebook computers to incorporate real fabrics into mass production. Ego Lifestyle worked closely with companies like Inclosia Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company that specializes in developing innovative enclosures technologies, Marcel van Galen Design, Eltan and Vanberlostudio’s on the Ego project. These parties have joined together to bring an element of fashion to devices that have been stylistically challenged for decades. “For years notebooks have been differentiated by technical capabilities,” said Tony Frencham, global business director, Inclosia Solutions. “The housing was often designed as basic protection with very limited aesthetic appeal. We believe the Ego will be the first of many to use fashion and design as a major focus for consumer satisfaction." AMD is partner for providing advanced mobile technology to the Ego.
