Neues Entwicklungszentrum wird von Chris Schläger, Direktor für Software Engineering, geleitet
Dresden -- 20. April 2006 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) wird am Standort Dresden ein neues Entwicklungszentrum gründen. Unter der Leitung von Chris Schläger, der seit April 2006 als Direktor für Software Engineering bei AMD tätig ist, baut das Unternehmen ein Operating System Research Center (OSRC) auf. Aufgabe des OSRC wird es sein, als weltweites Kompetenzzentrum die zukünftigen Generationen von AMD-Mikroprozessoren hinsichtlich der Anforderungen moderner Betriebssysteme zu optimieren. Dabei wird das OSRC eng mit der internationalen Design-Organisation von AMD zusammen arbeiten, u. a. auch mit dem Dresden Design Center (DDC).
„Das neue Kompetenzzentrum verbreitert das Spektrum unserer Forschungs- und Entwicklungsaktivitäten am AMD-Standort Dresden um wichtige Elemente. Tür an Tür mit unseren zwei Halbleiterfabriken Fab 30 und Fab 36 sowie dem DDC wird sich das neue Kompetenzzentrum darauf konzentrieren, dass AMD-Mikroprozessoren und moderne Betriebssysteme optimal aufeinander abgestimmt sind“, sagt Dr. Hans Deppe, Geschäftsführer von AMD Dresden.
Das Ingenieur-Team um Chris Schläger wird Linux-basierte Referenzimplementierungen entwickeln und den Betriebssystemherstellern und der Open Source Gemeinschaft zur Verfügung stellen. Das OSRC wird AMD auch auf dem Gebiet der Virtualisierungstechnologie, bei Multi-Core Lösungen, Prozessor-Sicherheit sowie System- und Stromverbrauchsmanagement unterstützen.
Chris Schläger war zuvor in mehreren Managementpositionen im Bereich der Entwicklung von Betriebssystemen und im Chip Design tätig. Er hat einen Diplomabschluss der RWTH Aachen im Fach Elektrotechnik erworben.
