AMD (NYSE: AMD) and the AMD Foundation today announced the launch of its first European deployment of AMD Changing the Game in Dresden, Germany. AMD Changing the Game is AMD’s education initiative, which is designed to inspire students’ interest in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) skill learning by creating socially responsible video games.
Over the course of a series of 20 workshops, 27 youths ages 12 to 18 will design their own serious game focusing on a social topic that will have an impact on the communities in which they live. The students will be assisted by experts in the field of game design, graphics, sound and programming.
“We are excited about the opportunities that AMD Changing the Game provides for children and teenagers to collaboratively work on a social game design project,” – said Daniel Seitz, head of the project at Dresden Media and Culture Center. “Not only can children have a firsthand insight into how a modern game is designed, more importantly, they can learn how to work in teams and collectively decide on creative concept, sound, design and promotion of their work.”
“We are extremely happy to see how AMD Changing the Game is bringing young people together to use modern technology to create socially relevant games”, said Allyson Peerman, President, AMD Foundation, AMD. “Game design teaches kids valuable math, science, problem-solving and collaboration skills and engages students in learning. Furthermore we are delighted to see how the Dresden Media and Culture Center has taken on this initiative and is expanding the program to also attract parents and experts in game design.”
More details of the Dresden project such as the project timeline, a blog written by the participants and the team that tracks the progress of the game development at every stage and additional information can be found at http://www.amdchangingthegame.de.
