John Byrne is senior vice president and general manager for the computing and graphics business group at AMD, and reports to Chief Operating Officer Lisa Su. He is responsible for ensuring that AMD develops and deploys innovative, customer-centric platforms that unleash the full power and value of AMD’s world-class Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) solutions. He oversees a global business execution team responsible for strategy, design, product marketing and sales. Byrne joined AMD in 2007 and prior to his current appointment was AMD’s chief sales officer where he oversaw the worldwide sales organization, strengthening relationships with the company’s largest global customers.
Byrne has more than 25 years of experience in the technology industry, including founding successful technology sales and marketing businesses in Europe. In February 2012, he was promoted to senior vice president of global accounts at AMD. Previously, he was responsible for managing AMD’s Americas sales and marketing organization, leading AMD through a period of significant sales growth in North America, while also expanding the company’s business in key Latin American emerging markets. Prior to that, he was corporate vice president for AMD’s worldwide channel sales, where he grew the business by 65% in two years and led the consolidation of the company's computing and graphics processor worldwide channel sales.
Byrne played a critical role in the success of the AMD Partner Program, and also helped ensure AMD’s successful transition to the APU architecture in 2011 by driving design wins that introduced the new APU into the market.
Prior to joining AMD, Byrne was CEO of Advanced Technologies, Ltd., a leading European sales and marketing organization that collaborated with global hardware and software companies, including ATI Technologies and Cyberlink, to successfully define and activate local channel sales and marketing strategies.
