AMD engineers design the circuitry for microprocessors, graphics, embedded devices and accelerated processing units.
AMD works to minimize the environmental impacts and health risks of our products throughout their lifecycle.
AMD is taking steps to break the link between the trade in minerals and ongoing conflict and human rights abuses in Central Africa.
AMD’s designs are manufactured on a silicon wafer. A typical wafer is made out of pure silicon that is formed into cylindrical ingots. These ingots are then sliced into wafers about 0.75 mm thick. Each wafer undergoes multiple steps in the fabrication process to produce an AMD designed processors, or “die”. The working die from the silicon wafer are cut and sent to be assembled into a chip.
AMD and our Foundry suppliers have established “best-in-class” environmental, health and safety (EHS) goals associated with the manufacturing of AMD products.
In the assembly process each die is attached to metal connectors so it can function with other devices on a circuit board. The die is then assembled into a protective package to dissipate heat and protect it from other elements. Once fully assembled, each chip is tested for functionality.
AMD aims to reduce the environmental impacts from our own facilities and works with outsourced suppliers to reduce their impacts.
AMD is committed to a safe and healthy workplace for both our employees and those at our supply chain partners.
AMD follows the EICC standards for labor & human rights and expects the same from our suppliers.
Qualified chips are then packaged for shipping to our customers. AMD works with channel partners to sell "processors in a box" direct to the DIY computer enthusiasts community as well as to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that integrate our technology into their branded devices.
AMD works to reduce, reuse, and recycle the materials involved in packing and shipping our products.
AMD has established policies and practices to mitigate the introduction of suspect parts into the legitimate marketplace.
AMD technology powers millions of intelligent devices, including personal computers, game consoles and cloud servers that define the new era of surround computing.
AMD’s technology enables security features at all levels of IT systems - from the processor, to hardware and software applications.
AMD works with our customers, suppliers, peers, governments and civil society groups around the world to align on leading environment, health, safety and labor standards.
AMD solutions enable people everywhere to realize the full potential of their favorite devices and applications to push the boundaries of what is possible.
AMD aims to reduce customer carbon emissions and energy use by improving the energy efficiency of our products, while also helping develop industry tools that evaluate the carbon footprint of computer products.
In 2014, AMD announced our goal to deliver at least 25 times more energy efficiency from our accelerated processing units (APUs) by the year 2020. This goal demonstrates AMD’s commitment to future innovations that help reduce power consumption - while dramatically accelerating performance.
At the end of their useful life, devices including AMD technology can be refurbished, reused or recycled. Often the precious metals in the microprocessor are recycled for use in other devices.
AMD products help extend the life of computing platforms, thus reducing electronic waste. In many cases, AMD chips are “backwards compatible” with previous generation AMD chips.
We care deeply about people and our planet, and this caring attitude is woven into everything we do. We call this "The AMD Way," and it's a key business differentiator. We know that how we run our business is just as important to our customers, employees, shareholders and stakeholders as the quality of technology we deliver to market.
AMD is committed to maintaining a high standard of ethics and integrity in all aspects of our business.
Innovation is at AMD’s core, and occurs when creative minds and diverse perspectives are drawn from all over the world.
AMD was founded on the principle of putting people first - our employees, our customers, our shareholders and our neighbors in the communities around the world where we live and work.
