The Élan486 Module with its integrated peripherals is a powerful 32-bit PC compatible system to support embedded applications with standard PC development software. An AMD Am486® core with 8K write-back cache running with 33 MHz clock (66/99MHz in hyperspeed mode), up to 32 MByte DRAM, up to 8 MByte (Boot Block), Flash and an AT comparible keyboard controller make the Élan486 Module a fast PC-like system. Power management allows to reduce power consumption drastically at idle times or when low battery condition occurs. It's 5 x 50 pin micro strip connectors allow the usage on the Embedded Communications Controller to get 486 speed and power on this board. In standalone applications the module has up to 17 General Purpose I/Os (GPIO) and 11 General Purpose I/O-Chipselects (GPIO_CS) pins for other application-specific connections. It allows the connection of a passive matrix keyboard with up to 14 x 8 keys. A serial port, an IrDA port, up to two PCMCIA channels, an EPP parallel port, a LCD display and an 8/16-bit ISA bus are supported with 3.3V signals. Some of these features need additional hardware like level-transistors or buffers. Combined with the CC SC400 board the module Élan486-VESA can be expanded with 2 PCMCIA-cards, VESA-Local Bus VGA/TV-Controller keyboard, PS/2 mouse, floppy-disk. Redirection to serial or parallel port complete the board to a powerful embedded PC system that speeds up development time and reduces development costs.
