AMD Announces Sponsorship Of Kelley Racing Team Car Competing In Indy Racing League
AMD Reseller Program Challenges VARs to Experience the Performance
SUNNYVALE, CA -- El 16 de Febrero de 1998 --AMD today announced its co-sponsorship of a car managed by Kelley Racing competing in the Indy Racing League (IRL), the nation's premier open-wheeled, oval track series, founded on the tradition of the Indianapolis 500. Scott Sharp, 1996 IRL co-champion will drive Indy car #8 (Delphi Automotive Systems Car), throughout the 1998 season, which began in January and runs through October, with races scheduled in ten cities across the country.
"Teamwork and performance are the keys to success in this market," said Tom Toles, AMD field marketing manager. "This year we invite our resellers to Experience the Performance with the AMD Racing Team' in business as well as at the race track."
"There is a natural parallel between racing and AMD's reseller relationships," said Scott Sharp, driver. "Just as I depend on a high performance engine and my support team in the pit crew, resellers of PCs depend on the AMD-K6® and the AMD Reseller Program to compete to win".
AMD plans to use the IRL sponsorship to extend some unique incentives to value added resellers (VARs) and system integrators that work with AMD processors, by offering chances to win VIP passes to IRL races and other prizes during the 1998 season. AMD will host reseller seminars in each of the race locales during the week prior to a scheduled race. Qualified authorized resellers will have the opportunity to win VIP passes to the IRL race later that week. Local resellers who are not registered in AMD's reseller program may register at the seminars or via AMD's website at http://www.amd.com/reseller/reseller.html.
"Our reseller seminars have proven to be one of the most popular offerings of our program," said Toles. "Last year we hosted over 50 seminars in key markets and found that our channel customers respond enthusiastically to two-way communication. As a result of their input, we 've expanded our commercial distribution network, added the Processor In a Box product and fine-tuned the promotional material we provide to better meet their marketing needs." AMD announced today in a separate release the addition of Ingram Micro to its commercial distribution network.
The AMD authorized reseller base has quintupled from 2,500 members in April of last year to over 13,000 members today. VARs and system integrators who sign up for the AMD reseller program receive a wide variety of promotional material, technical support, and various communication and information tools from AMD.
Other co sponsors of the Kelley Racing Team car #8 are Delphi and Futaba. In its third season, the IRL competes at some of the best oval racing venues in the United States, including: Phoenix International Raceway; Texas Motor Speedway at Fort Worth; Pikes Peak International Raceway at Colorado Springs; Charlotte Motor Speedway; Dover Downs International Speedway at Dover, Delaware; New Hampshire International Speedway at Loudon; Atlanta Motor Speedway; Las Vegas Motor Speedway; and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
