AMD to Co-Sponsor Microsoft Professional Developers Conference
SUNNYVALE, CA -- El 12 de Octubre de 1997 --AMD today announced its co-sponsorship of the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC), taking place October 12-15 at the Denver Convention Center. The conference presents software developers with the latest generation of the Microsoft Windows® operating system development tools required to effectively build high-volume web applications, enterprise class applications, and utility or game applications.
During the conference, AMD will demonstrate Windows-compatible software and tools optimized for the AMD-K6®-2 processor featuring 3DNow! technology. 3DNow! technology is a set of 21 new instructions that significantly enhance 3D graphics, multimedia, and other floating-point-intensive PC applications. Hardware and software developers attending the conference can also register for AMD's Developer Connection, a program dedicated to providing developers with the necessary 3DNow! optimization resources and development tools capable of enhancing the performance of their product offerings.
"Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference attracts the leading industry developers whose applications continually redefine the PC computing experience," said Ned Finkle, director of Strategic Initiatives at AMD. "AMD's 3DNow! technology provides the native processor support developers require to accelerate the 3D imaging, audio and multimedia aspects of their applications and enable a new level of interactivity."
"Microsoft is committed to providing developers with the tools and technologies they need to make their businesses and products successful," said Tod Nielsen, general manager of developer relations at Microsoft Corp. "Our goal at the PDC is to show developers how they can build applications that lower the cost of development and deployment by using the rich set of services provided by Windows NT 5.0. We are pleased to have AMD as a co-sponsor for the PDC."
Software and hardware developers attending the Professional Developers Conference can visit the AMD booth (#15) for information about 3DNow! technology and the AMD Developer Connection. Information on AMD's Software Development Kit, and other optimization tools will also be available.
About 3DNow! Technology
3DNow! technology is the first innovation to the x86 processor architecture that significantly enhances 3D graphics, multimedia, and other floating-point-intensive PC applications to enable the emerging "realistic computing platform." 3DNow! is a set of 21 new instructions that use SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) and other performance enhancements to open the performance bottleneck in the 3D graphics pipeline between the host CPU and the 3D graphics accelerator card.
With 3DNow! technology, more powerful hardware and software applications can bring a new level of 3D performance and realism to Microsoft® Windows® -compatible PCs. Microsoft's DirectX 6.0 application programming interface API (API Applications Programming Interface) is optimized for 3DNow! technology enabling software developers to achieve enhanced 3D performance for applications that use the floating-point-intensive geometry functions that are performed with Direct 3D.
Applications written to Microsoft's new DirectX 6.0 API will seamlessly take advantage of the fast geometry processing power of 3DNow! technology. 3DNow! works hand-in-hand with leading 3D graphics accelerators to achieve faster frame rates on high-resolution scenes, improved physical modeling of real-world environments, realistic 3D graphics and images, and theater-quality audio and video.
3DNow! technology is compatible with today's existing x86 software. Leading game companies, including Microsoft, Epic Megagames and Rage, along with productivity software offerings from IBM, Viewpoint DataLabs and Pegasus, deliver titles supporting 3DNow! technology. Vendors continue to provide support and plan to deliver additional optimized titles.
