Micron Technology, INC. Announces Support For The Upcoming AMD Opteron™ And Eighth-Generation AMD Athlon™ Processor-Based Platforms
Boise, Idaho -- El 16 de Julio de 2002 --Micron Technology, Inc. today announced support for the upcoming AMD OpteronT™ and eighth-generation AMD Athlon™ processors. Micron continues to work closely with AMD to help ensure that its processor technology and Micron’s next generation memory technology are fully compatible.
“Micron is working collaboratively with customers and partners to develop new memory technologies and enable system OEMs to take full advantage of the outstanding performance of DDR SDRAM,” said Brett Williams, Micron’s DRAM PC Segment Marketing Manager. “We have collaborated with AMD to help ensure that DDR266 and DDR333 will work in concert with the upcoming AMD Opteron and eighth-generation AMD Athlon processor-based platforms to provide an optimal computing experience.”
Micron’s DDR SDRAM technology and AMD’s future eighth-generation processors featuring an integrated memory controller are designed to reduce memory latency and improve performance on memory-intensive applications.
“Micron is a leader in high-speed memory and subsystem design. Our shared customers benefit from AMD’s collaboration with Micron to continually improve chip performance, stability and reliability,” said Rich Heye, vice president platform engineering and infrastructure, Computation Products Group, AMD. “Enterprise customers and end users can look forward to a 64-bit computing solution with simultaneous 32-bit capability and the benefits of the DDR memory solution.”

About the AMD Opteron™ Processor
The AMD Opteron processor is based on AMD’s eighth-generation processor core, which is planned to mark the introduction of the industry’s first x86-64 technology. This technology is planned to preserve companies’ investments in 32-bit applications while allowing a seamless transition to 64-bit computing, as those companies require. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to deliver high-performance server and workstation solutions for today’s most demanding enterprise applications. The processor is designed to be scalable, reliable and compatible, which can result in lower total cost of ownership. Key AMD Opteron processor innovations include an integrated memory controller, which reduces memory bottlenecks, and HyperTransport™ technology, which increases overall performance by removing or reducing I/O bottlenecks, increasing bandwidth and reducing latency.
