NAG works with AMD to produce accurate, optimised numerical libraries for the upcoming AMD Opteron™ and eighth-generation AMD Athlon™ processors

Oxford UK -- El 16 de Julio de 2002 --The world's leading provider of mathematical and statistical algorithms, the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG), announced it is working closely with AMD to produce numerical libraries for the x86-64 architecture of the upcoming eighth-generation AMD processors.

NAG has been producing numerical libraries for industry and academia for more than 30 years and its products, such as the NAG Fortran Library and the NAG C Library have a worldwide reputation for accuracy, reliability and robustness. Thousands of organisations across a diverse range of industries have seen the benefits of embedding NAG’s numerical and statistical components into their applications.

“NAG is delighted to be working with AMD to provide numerical libraries for their new 64-bit platforms,” comments Brian Ford, Director of NAG. “Our experience of working with the upcoming AMD Opteron™ and eighth-generation AMD Athlon™ processors has been very good and we look forward to delivering a range of accurate, optimised numerical libraries to our customers and partners for this exciting new platform.”

AMD’s straightforward approach to 64-bit computing builds upon the x86 instruction set, one of the industry’s most proven and widely supported technologies. AMD’s x86-64 technology is designed to support applications that address large amounts of physical and virtual memory, such as high-performance servers, database management systems, and CAD tools. AMD’s x86-64 technology seamlessly integrates into the current computing and support environment, and is designed to enable enterprises to deploy high-performance 64-bit capable systems that build upon the billions of dollars already invested in 32-bit software.

“NAG has a global reputation for producing high-quality numerical software. Developers using the NAG numerical libraries optimized for future eighth-generation AMD processors will be able to increase accuracy and reduce total development time for applications and systems running on the x86-64 architecture,” said Rich Heye, vice president platform engineering and infrastructure, Computation Products Group, AMD.
