Motorcycle Portal Gets Pounded by Net Traffic AMD Athlon™ Processor Fades the Heat
In Portland, Oregon, the marriage of motorcycle madness and Internet technology has produced a thriving offspring known as CycleMallUSA.com, an Internet retailer of motorcycles and motorcycle paraphernalia. "Of course, as a 'dot-com' we are heavily reliant on our hardware," said Norm Adkins, CycleMallUSA.com President. "Our internal server gets pounded on all day, everyday. Even holidays. The AMD Athlon™ processor has taken everything we could throw at it in stride."

CycleMallUSA.com is one of the Net's largest (and still growing) discount retailers of motorcycle accessories, parts and apparel. The team is working hard to ensure that CycleMallUSA.com emerges as a leader in on-line motorcycle buying services, and with well over 2.6 million hits a month, it appears they are succeeding. The company's information-rich website has a comprehensive online catalog with over 5,000 Motorcycle-related items for sale through its secure server.

The team at CycleMallUSA.com knows that an active portal must serve many masters. Increasingly, multi-tasking is one of the greatest challenges facing the hardware supporting today's interactive websites.

"Our sales force may need to access multiple databases simultaneously while we're in the middle of a massive catalog update and an unscheduled backup," Adkins said. "We know that no matter what challenge we've thrown its way, the AMD Athlon processor's internal temperature never even cracked ambient."

CycleMallUSA.com, a subsidiary of HBM Cycle, is more than a business to its staff. "We all ride our own bikes. Unless we're in the process of building or restoring them," Adkins explained.

Because of their own personal enthusiasm, the folks at CycleMallUSA.com can relate to the passion of their customers. They pride themselves in offering personal service from real human beings, an increasingly rare phenomenon in this era of automation. Yet, in the portal business, personal service is no better than the equipment which supports daily operations. "Our previous solution was absolutely not up to the task," Adkins said. "We had database failures to connect, hang-ups and corruption. The messiest problem of all was the HTML bleed-through corruption. We couldn't solve it until we swapped servers for a new server with the AMD Athlon™ processor. Then, poof, no more problem."

For CycleMallUSA.com, the performance boost from the AMD Athlon™ processor was another plus. "The response time from the server became immediate. No more waiting, " said Adkins.

Without question, CycleMallUSA.com has traveled a long distance in a short time, evolving from a start-up to a leader in the land of virtual motorcycles. "We really can't express just how helpful the AMD Athlon™ processor has been," said Adkins.
