Q:What is a holographic label and how is it unique?
R:AMD uses a 3-D holographic label on its boxed processor (aka Processor-In-a-Box, or PIB) packaging to provide customers an easy, effective way to authenticate AMD PIB and help protect their consumer rights upon purchase. The label consists of a three-dimensional, full-parallax view surrounding the AMD logo which shows dots arranged in a pattern: from one dot to two dots, three dots and four dots as it is viewed from different angles. Click here to find out more.
The holographic label is produced using the patented Dupont Izon technology, which combines overt authentication feature, tamper evident construction and a tightly controlled secure supply chain, making it extremely difficult to duplicate.

NOTE: Starting mid-2004, the holographic label on AMD PIB packaging should appear a gold-green color with a dimension of 19mm x 15mm. Earlier versions may be different.

Q:What AMD processors have the holographic label? Where is it located on the PIB?
R:All authentic AMD Athlon™ 64 FX, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2, AMD Athlon™ X2, AMD Athlon 64, AMD Sempron™ and AMD Opteron™ boxed processors (PIB) have the holographic label affixed to the bottom right corner of the packaging.

Q:What other security features are available on PIB to help ensure the authenticity of a PIB?
R:AMD has a number of ways to help ensure the authenticity of a PIB. Each AMD PIB has a unique serial number label that helps AMD to track distribution, and help ensure that buyers are receiving authentic AMD products of the highest quality. Serial numbers are also used for verification of PIB authenticity for warranty service. In addition, tamper-evident security labels with industrial strength adhesive are used on both sides of the back of the PIB package. Tamper proof seals will physically reveal if tampering has occurred.

Q:Does AMD pursue legal action against product tampering?
R:AMD takes very seriously any reports of product tampering. AMD investigates these incidents in an effort to determine the source of the altered products and considers all available legal remedies - including both civil and criminal prosecution - against persons found to have engaged in fraudulent actions affecting AMD products.

Q:Is a remarked or re-packaged processor covered by AMD warranty?
R:No. AMD's limited warranty on non-boxed processors extends only to customers who purchased products directly from AMD and does not cover such products purchased from resellers.

Q:What should I do if I suspect I have unknowingly acquired remarked or non-authentic AMD Product?
R:Return the product to where you obtained it and ask for a legitimate replacement product, or request your money back. If the vendor refuses to cooperate, report these actions to your local Consumer Affairs Office and the Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org/). You can also e-mail AMD's Investigations Department at antifraud@amd.com to report non-authentic AMD products. Click here for detailed instructions.

Q:What does the three-year limited warranty for a boxed AMD processor include?
R:AMD warrants that processors sold through the AMD Processor-In-a-Box (PIB), which have a "qualifying" serial number, when properly installed and used, will be free from defects in material and workmanship and will substantially conform to AMD's publicly available specifications for a period of three (3) years after the date the AMD processor was purchased.
