An electronic gaming machine (EGM) is a hardware and software system designed to entertain while players gamble, wager or bet on random event or game outcomes. Key gaming market segments include casino gaming, amusement with prize (AWP), video lottery terminals (VLT) and pachinko / pachislot systems. Video slot machines dominate the casino gaming segment. With large, touch screen LCD displays, vibrant 3D graphics and HD multimedia, casino gaming machines deliver engaging, theme based entertainment. Local and wide area client / server architectures enable multiplayer game play with novel progressive jackpot bonus awards. In the EU, AWP machines (e.g. fruit machines, video poker etc.) are common. Similar to casino game machines, AWP machines are found in bars, pubs, clubs, bingo halls and betting shops. A VLT is a networked, thin client, video gaming terminal deployed for government lotteries, pari-mutuel wagering, race and sports betting and as fixed odds betting terminals (FOBT). Game outcome is determined by a centralized server, rather than by the machine itself. To enhance player entertainment and capture more revenues, VLTs are demanding more graphics and video performance. Pachinko and pachislot are unique to Japan.
AMD Embedded solutions offer several benefits for Transactional Gaming applications. For gaming machine operators, eye catching graphics and video on multiple large displays keeps players longer at the gaming machine to help drive revenue. And excellent energy efficiency and reliability can help enable lower operating costs. For OEM’s, a scalable, single platform solution enables quick time to market. One design may be used for multiple market segments: entry level to full featured, high-end solution which simplifies product development for a highly integrated, small foot print solution.
