FIC Announces HB11 motherboard for Upcoming AMD Opteron™ and Eighth-Generation AMD Athlon™ Processor-based Platforms
Taipei, Taiwan -- 3rd June 2002 --First International Computer, Inc. (FIC) is pleased to announce that it is developing motherboard solutions designed to support the eagerly-awaited AMD Opteron™ and eighth-Generation Athlon™ processors. FIC’s award-winning range of Socket A motherboards for AMD Athlon and Duron™ families of processors have proved hugely popular and FIC intends to continue providing high-quality solutions for the new generation of AMD products.
President of FIC Networking and Information Group, Gene Sheu, today commented, “The launch of the AMD Opteron and eighth-generation AMD Athlon processors is definitely going to be a landmark in processor technology history. FIC’s Socket A solutions have been a huge success and I firmly believe that the next generation of AMD motherboard solutions will be even better.”
Currently under development at FIC is the advanced HB11 motherboard with support for the eighth-generation AMD processors with DDR333 memory. The new ATX motherboard will be based on AMD-8151™ HyperTransport™ AGP 3.0 graphics tunnel and AMD-8111™ HyperTransport I/O hub chipsets and looks set to carry a host of features including on-board LAN, IEEE1394, USB 2.0, ATA133, on-board audio and possibly even embedded Bluetooth™. The HB11 will be the first FIC product to support the upcoming AMD processors but more products will certainly follow.
The upcoming eighth-generation of AMD processors will use a new 64 bit design technology. The new 64-bit approach to processor design will allow support for existing 32-bit applications but will also allow a seamless transition to 64-bit applications as they become available. This is good news for buyers of technology that don’t want to have to upgrade again when they need support for 64-bit applications.
