AMD Launches Fall Advertising Campaign

AMD Launches Fall Advertising Campaign

SUNNYVALE, CA -- 25th September 1997 --AMD is launching a new fall advertising campaign featuring its latest AMD-K6™ MMX™ Enhanced Processor. The new commercial will break tonight on prime time television.

"These television spots target personal computer consumers," said Tom Stites, vice president of communications at AMD. "Our intent is to show that buying PCs based on the AMD- K6 processor is a smart choice. The message is that no matter how much or how little consumers are prepared to spend for a similarly configured system, they will get better performance with the AMD-K6."

Developed by Hill, Holliday, a Boston-based advertising agency, the new commercial has a serious message, but takes a lighter approach. It tells the story of a secret agent who has been captured by the forces of an evil mastermind named Mestopholes who is plotting world domination. The plan fails when the expensive PCs used by Mestopholes don't deliver the performance required. The agent escapes and captures Mestopholes by using a PC based on an AMD-K6 MMX™ Enhanced Processor.

"Our message of performance and value is compelling, but our primary competitor outspends us on advertising by almost 20 to one," said Stites. "In order to be heard above the noise, commercials from AMD must break through with humor and excitement."

The new commercial will air beginning today in major markets throughout the country, including New York, Boston, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. It will appear on prime-time shows like Seinfeld and ER , morning and late local news, sports, business and political news programs.
