To whom it may concern.
I am a shareholder and a user.
In my small condo my wife and I have 10 Opteron (1)140, (1)142, (2)240, (2)242, (4)840, (4) Athlon MP, and (3) athlon64. Oh yea, I have one Celeron that an elderly person gave to me when I built them an Athlon64. I bought all my equipment about a year ago on E-bay. I had intended on selling them, but… I couldn’t. I should say I wouldn’t.
I have a new idea that I am working on. Being disabled, I spend some of my day cruising the internet. I realized that a satellite is nothing more than a computer in space. So I am building a space based telescope. I want it to do all it own image processing locally, returning the data to a small cluster to find killer asteroids. It is going to be a long but enjoyable next 2 years.
I trust Opterons to perform. I have never had a problem with them. Windows will not crash on Opteron systems. I have tried, many times. My workstation (142) is my only XP unit. I have run realtime 3d orbital simulations (Celestia) while having a stock ticker (CoolTick) scrolling on top, a news ticker (EasyByte) scrolling on bottom and real player playing Bob and Tom live video in the background. I also had several documents open in Adobe and Word. E-mule is running in the background along with Ad-aware and Avast protecting the system. This would have melted anything Intel produces. Windows usually crashes under this load. Is there anything an Opteron can’t do? I doubt it.
I have brought my workstation to my wife’s neurosurgeon to show him a 3-d MRI model of her spine. I want him to be able to perform the surgery before he touches her back. He was impressed to be able to false color a 3d MRI. We will be able to define nerves, tissue, bones and other structures in different colors.
About this time last year I came home to find my wife on the phone with our stockbroker saying “I don’t care what you think, just buy 500 AMD now.”
I never thought I bought too many processors, but I do not have enough applications to tax my network. I must have been really good in a past life.
Many thanks for helping us make our lives better.
Lets work together to make AMD better.
