AUSTIN, TX -- 1997 년 11 월 3 일 --AMD today announced a boxed processor product based on the AMD-K6(TM) MMX(TM) enhanced processor that provides resellers the best performance solution for Socket 7 systems. The new AMD Processor In a Box (PIB) includes the AMD-K6/200 or 233 in a boxed unit, with heatsink, thermal grease, and fan attached to the processor. The product comes with a three-year limited warranty and will be available through authorized distributors in North America.
AMD developed the new product in response to requests from value-added resellers (VARs) and system integrators. "The reseller market has responded enthusiastically to the AMD-K6 processor and its value proposition, and the PIB product will enable VARs to more easily build the best desktop PCs for their customers," said Dave Sheffler, AMD's vice president, channel sales and marketing. "By offering the Processor In a Box, we can guarantee our customers receive a high-quality, cost-competitive product that is reliable and easier to use."
In conjunction with the new product, AMD will promote a rebate program aimed at North American VARs who purchase the PIBs. The rebate program involves an industry-first joint effort with Microsoft® Corp. For each group of 50 AMD-K6 PIB-based systems sold with officially licensed versions of the Windows®95 operating system, the U.S. or Canada-based VAR may submit the proper combination of AMD and Microsoft rebate coupons for up to $500 cash back.
"Microsoft is pleased to work with AMD to offer additional rebate dollars to system builders who purchase the AMD-K6 processor with genuine Windows 95," said Doris Medlicott, Manager of Microsoft OEM Sales, North America. "This promotion demonstrates that Microsoft continues to be committed to proactively supporting system builders who license legitimate products."
"We are responding to the AMD Reseller Program members' requests for better and more widespread distribution of AMD processors," said David West, AMD's director of worldwide distributor operations. AMD's current North American commercial distributor associates, FAI and @Once, will distribute the new boxed processor product.
The AMD Processor In a Box is available through authorized commercial distributors.
