AMD Joins Lance Armstrong Foundation in Fight against Cancer

Determination. Strength. Passion.

For AMD, these attributes are a vital part of our culture, award-winning products and technology, and community involvement.

For Lance Armstrong these attributes are a vital part of his triumph as a cyclist, winning the Tour de France three years in a row, and even more importantly, his triumph over cancer.

Lance was determined to be a cancer survivor, not a cancer victim. He created the Lance Armstrong Foundation to help people around the world find the same determination, strength and passion and become cancer survivors.

AMD will join Lance Armstrong at the 2002 Ride for the Roses Weekend, April 12-14 at Auditorium Shores in Austin, Texas. On Saturday, April 13, AMD’s Dirk Meyer, Group Vice President of the Computation Products Group, will accompany Lance on a one-mile bicycle ride around Auditorium Shores as part of the AMD Kids Cancer Awareness and Rider Education (C.A.R.E.) program.

AMD Kids C.A.R.E educates third through seventh graders about cancer, the helpful things they can do if a classmate or family member is diagnosed with cancer, and healthy habits they can learn in order to prevent cancer.

Students in 18 area elementary schools are studying the AMD Kids C.A.R.E. curriculum in their physical education classes and at home with parents.

Other students can sign up for the program by downloading Bike Paths (requires Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later) and completing the workbook with their parents. Kids who complete the journal can ride with Lance Armstrong and Dirk Meyer in the one-mile AMD Kids C.A.R.E. ride Saturday April 13, 8:30 am, Auditorium Shores. Instructions and registration form are in the back of the Bike Paths journal. Registration deadline is April 1.

Lance takes time to pose with a future champion at the 2000 Kids C.A.R.E. Ride

This activity-filled weekend will be a great opportunity for our community to help Lance and his foundation continue to enhance the quality of life for those living with, through, and beyond cancer. AMD is the title sponsor of this event, which is a perfect complement to our commitment to education and community.

The Ride for the Roses Weekend benefits the Lance Armstrong Foundation and features many exciting activities, including a bike ride through the Texas Hill country, a 5K run, a health and sports expo where we will demonstrate AMD’s technology and products, and a rock concert.

You can also visit the Lance Armstrong Foundation Web site and find out about the Peloton Project – the heart of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, made up of people around the world who help raise money and increase cancer awareness in their local communities – or the many other ways you can be a part of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Be a part of the 2002 Ride for the Roses Weekend and ride with Lance, increase cancer awareness, have fun and show your determination, strength and passion.

You can participate in a tribute to cancer survivors and those who have lost the battle. Click here to learn more about how you can honor or memorialize those whose lives have been directly affected by cancer.
