William Michael (Mike) Johnson
Mike Johnson is vice president of AMD's Connectivity Solutions Division and
an AMD senior fellow. He is responsible for overseeing the development of communications
and networking products and technology for AMD platforms.
Mike joined AMD in 1985 as the chief architect of the 29K family of microprocessors,
and held various management positions on the 29K processor product line and
on the K5 and K7 processors. Most recently, he was vice president of the Advanced
Architecture Lab, responsible for technology development in the areas of processor,
multimedia, networking, telecommunications, and personal computer system products.
Prior to his AMD career, Mike was an architect and designer of early RISC processors
at IBM Austin.
Mike holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering, both from
Arizona State University. He also holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from
Stanford University.
Robert Melendres
Robert C. Melendres is vice president of Corporate Alliances and Strategic Relations at AMD.
Prior to joining AMD in July 2002, Melendres served in various senior management positions, including president and general counsel of WebGain, Inc., director of Worldwide Contracts and Business Practices for IBM, and IBM legal counsel.
Melendres has extensive experience structuring and negotiating strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and technology transactions with global industry leaders in areas of telecommunications, electronics, computers, storage systems, and microelectronics. His business, management, and legal experience is diverse and ranges from founding and running a medical devices company, to managing sales and marketing organizations, to advising on a broad range of legal matters on a worldwide basis such as mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, securities, litigation, tax, corporate, employment, patent prosecution, intellectual property licensing, and e-commerce.
Melendres holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School.
Patrick Moorhead
Patrick Moorhead is vice president of corporate marketing at AMD. He is responsible
for AMD’s worldwide consumer advocacy, corporate branding, positioning and communications.
He reports to the Office of the CEO.
Moorhead joined AMD in 2000 as vice president of desktop and mobile strategic
marketing for the Computation Products Group at AMD. One year later, he assumed
the position of vice president of consumer advocacy, leading AMD’s ongoing programs
to put end users at the forefront of the industry’s technology discussions.
Prior to joining AMD, Moorhead held a variety of marketing leadership positions
spanning consumer and enterprise computer hardware, software and services at
Compaq Computer Corporation, AT&T and the AltaVista Company.
Moorhead holds a bachelor of science in business from Miami University.
Craig Sander
Craig Sander is vice president of Technical Development at AMD.
Sander began his career at AMD in 1980 as a senior process development engineer. He then went on to hold various positions with AMD in technology development, including director of Logic Technology Development followed by operations director of the Submicron Development Center.
He was promoted to his current position in 1998 and is responsible for logic process technology as well as general process module research and development in support of both flash memory and logic.
Sander received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at the University of New Mexico and master’s and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering, both from Stanford University.
Marty Seyer
Marty Seyer is vice president and general manager, microprocessor business unit. In this role, he oversees all marketing, platform engineering, infrastructure development and program management functions for AMD’s Computation Products Group (CPG).
Seyer previously served as Vice President of Server Business for AMD, responsible for AMD’s server business, including marketing, strategy, business planning, product planning, and associated operations.
Before joining AMD, Seyer was president and CEO of Penguin Computing, Inc., a leading vendor of AMD processor-based Linux servers. Previously, Seyer spent six years at NCR Corporation, a Fortune 500 provider of commercial computer systems for financial, retail and government markets, including large scale server systems for data warehouse and data mining products and services, where he served as vice president and general manager of High Availability Servers after holding positions of increasing responsibility. Prior to joining NCR, Seyer held senior product marketing and management positions with Dell Computer Corporation. At Dell, Seyer led Dell’s entry into the server market with the launch of the PowerEdge brand of servers. He has also served in a variety of management and marketing roles at Tandem Computer, Inc. and AT&T.
Seyer is a Certified Teradata Engineer and frequent panelist and speaker at industry events. He is the author of seven books on subjects including computers, operating systems, computer interfacing and networking, and holds patents in unattended synchronous interface sign-on and media mounting capabilities.
Seyer earned a bachelor’s degree in administrative management and an associate’s degree in computer science from Southeast Missouri State University. He has completed graduate coursework in programming and marketing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School and Dartmouth College.
Ian Williams
Ian Williams is vice president of customer operations for the Memory Group.
He is responsible for ensuring that AMD’s customers receive the highest levels
of service. Williams leads an organization responsible for customer quality,
regional and business marketing as well as pricing strategy, product positioning,
and marketing communications.
Williams has been director of business and regional marketing for AMD’s Memory
Group.
Before joining AMD, Williams was distributor marketing manager at Intersil Corp
and northern Europe sales manager for GE Semiconductor.
Rich Witek
Rich Witek was appointed corporate fellow, the highest position in the company's
Member of Technical Staff (MTS) program. He is the first AMD employee to hold
this position.
Rich provides strategic technical leadership for AMD's Personal Connectivity
Solutions (PCS) business unit, which develops products for non-PC connectivity
devices including web tablets, auto navigation and entertainment systems, and
portable and wired Internet access devices and gateways.
Rich has 24 years of hardware and software experience, with the past 17 years
devoted to full custom VLSI CPU and system design. Rich received a BA in Computer
Science and Math in 1976 from Aurora College. He has worked for leading high
tech companies throughout his career, including Bell Labs, Digital Equipment
Corporation and Apple, and in 1998, co-founded Alchemy Semiconductor, Inc.
Rich has played a major role in six implementations of leading edge CISC and
RISC designs. He was the co-architect of DEC ALPHA and did architecture work
on ARM, PowerPC, DEC Prism, DEC VAX, and VAX Vectors. Rich was lead micro architect
for StrongARM, the first two Alphas, and uPRISM. Rich consulted and reviewed
designs for several other CPUs and holds 22 patents in area of CPU, Cache, and
system design. Rich has also co-authored several IEEE papers and presented papers
at several technical conferences, and co-authored the "Alpha Architecture Reference
Manual."
