Kingston, MA -- 13-го Ноября 2008 --Microway announces the Navion-4X ™ and Navion-8X ™ SMP servers -- our most powerful AMD Opteron™ processor-based platform to date. The Navion server line is designed for new two-, four- or eight-way Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ processors, up to 128 GB memory and eight drives in Microway’s 4U RuggedRack™ chassis. Navion-2M servers feature two complete SMP nodes with InfiniBand and Gigabit Ethernet in a 1U chassis packed into a robustly cooled 1U rack chassis, each node featuring two enhanced Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, up to 64 GB DRAM and up to 4 hard drives.. This packaging achieves a density of 672 cores in a standard 42U cabinet. Customers with compute-intensive applications including DSP, CFD and FEA, as well as high-performance database and enterprise-class applications choose Navion for exceptional performance and power/space efficiency.
Additionally, Microway WhisperStation™ ultra-quiet workstation features improved performance with one or two new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors and AMD FireStream™ stream processors. All configurations have been “quietized” by employing noise reducing technologies and are available running many flavors of Linux® or Microsoft® Windows® .
Microway's Navion servers and WhisperStations are also available as multi-function SMP storage servers. Navion supports HPC/Enterprise applications while providing up to 96 Terabytes of Storage in one single machine! One 19" Microway CoolRak™ cabinet can provide 384 Terabyte's of storage along with 128 cores of compute power sharing 512 GB's of memory. These machines are all fault tolerant, highly available with redundant power.
Technical innovations of the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors are of special importance to data center (cluster) design and designers’ operating cost considerations. AMD’s latest native Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ processors are built on 45nm process technology, and are packed with core and cache enhancements designed to improve performance of server and workstation applications. They also feature power efficient features such as AMD CoolCore™ technology, designed to turn off portions of the processor logic and memory controller when not in use, helping to reduce processor energy consumption and heat generation. AMD’s Dual Dynamic Power Management™ offers separate power planes for the cores and integrated memory controller for optimal performance and low power consumption, and Independent Dynamic Core Technology is designed to allow each core’s utilization to be separately controlled for better power management for a reduction in power consumption. Enhanced AMD PowerNow!™ technology can help lower the total operational cost of data centers by reducing processor power consumption during non-peak workloads, thereby helping to reduce heat generation and decrease strain on facility cooling systems in order to protect investments in today’s demanding data processing environments.
