AMD64 Processors Win "Best IC Innovation” Award From The China Semiconductor Industry Association

—Award from Chinese industry authority signals continued acceptance of AMD’s approach to 64-bit computing—

BEIJING, CHINA -- 23-го Июня 2003 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced today that AMD64 processors, the AMD Opteron™ and the upcoming AMD Athlon™ 64 processor for desktop and mobile PCs, were named “Best IC Innovation for 64-bit processors” by the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) at the recently held “IC China 2003” exhibition in Shanghai.

IC China 2003 is CSIA’s premier event covering every aspect of the IC industry. The event was sponsored by various government and trade associations including China’s Ministry of Industry and Information (MII) and Ministry of Science and Technology. Numerous domestic and international industry leaders took part in the exhibition.

“The rapid advancement of the worldwide IC industry brings a wide span of opportunities and challenges to the IT industry,” said Yu Zhongyu, president, China Semiconductor Industry Association. “We are glad to see prominent leaders like AMD opening new fronts in global microprocessor development and making efforts to drive the advancement of servers, desktop and mobile PCs. We believe that AMD64 processors will power a new wave of innovation.”

“The AMD Opteron processor and the upcoming AMD Athlon 64 processors based on AMD64 technology define a new class of computing that enables a smooth transition from 32-bit to 64-bit computing for server and workstation applications and, in the near future, desktop and mobile PCs,” said Karen Guo, AMD corporate vice president and general manager of AMD China. “CSIA is the authority of the semiconductor industry in China. The “Best IC Innovation for 64-bit processors” award from CSIA validates AMD’s 64-bit strategy and the leadership position AMD is staking out in the industry for pervasive 64-bit computing based on AMD64 processors. This award will highlight and build momentum for the official launch of the AMD Athlon 64 processor for desktop and mobile PCs in September 2003.”

The award was received in April 2003.

About AMD64
AMD64 defines a new class of computing by extending the industry-standard x86 instruction set architecture across 32- and 64-bit platforms. AMD64 is an AMD innovation designed to deliver full compatibility with existing 8-, 16-, and 32-bit x86 solutions and simultaneous industry-leading 64-bit performance. The AMD Opteron processor for servers and workstations is the first processor in this new class of computing. AMD plans to introduce the AMD Athlon 64 processor for desktop and mobile personal computers in September. AMD64 replaces terms such as Hammer (now, “AMD64 technology”) and x86-64 ISA (now, “AMD64 ISA”).
