5. Judging.
A panel of three (3) judges, to be selected by AMD, will review all submissions
and choose six (6) semifinalists, three (3) from each category (“Semifinalists”).
From among the Semifinalists, one best Film sequence and one best Animation
sequence will be selected based on the score awarded by the judges. Each Animation
sequence will be awarded a score from one (1) to ten (10) points in each of
three (3) criteria, for a maximum of thirty (30) possible points. Animation
criteria are: Quality and Clarity of Story and Imagery, demonstrating the most
creative storytelling combined with the quality of the imagery; Modeling, Texturing,
and Movement, exhibiting the best quality and detail of character, character
rigging, texture maps, and creative movement; and Character Personality, Expression,
and Emotion, displaying the character’s personality most effectively through
behavior, facial and body expression, and voice-over. Each Film sequence will
be awarded a score from one (1) to ten (10) points in each of three (3) criteria,
for a maximum of thirty (30) possible points. Film criteria are: Texture and
Lighting, exhibiting the most artistic and creative use of color, texture maps,
and lighting; Modeling and Environment, displaying the highest quality and detail
of 3-D models, structures, and landscapes; and Camera Work and Editing, demonstrating
creative use of camera movement and scene editing. In the event of a tie score
among the Semifinalists, the judges will select the submission with the highest
score awarded for the Quality and Clarity of Story and Imagery criteria for
Animation sequences, and the submission with the highest score awarded for the
Texture and Lighting criteria for Film sequences. In the event that there are
still Semifinalists with a tie score, the judges will then select the submission
with the highest score awarded for the Modeling, Texturing, and Movement criteria
for Animation sequences, and the submission with the highest score awarded for
the Modeling and Environment criteria for Film sequences. In the event that
there remain Semifinalists with a tie score, the judges will select the submission
with the highest score awarded for the Character Personality, Expression, and
Emotion criteria for Animation sequences, and the submission with the highest
score awarded for the Camera Work and Editing criteria for Film sequences. Each
entry will be pre-screened by AMD to determine its compliance with the Requirements
and applicable law. Only entries in compliance with the Requirements and applicable
law will be provided to the panel of judges. Scores provided by the panel of
judges are at their sole discretion and are not subject to review or appeal.
Based on the quality of submissions, AMD reserves the right not to select any
winning submissions.
Semifinalists must provide data files (containing the scene geometry, texture
maps, audio files, etc.) on CD-ROM to AMD for re-rendering of the sequence on
an AMD Athlon 64 processor-based system. Semifinalists will be required to send
the necessary data files to AMD via overnight shipping. AMD will provide reimbursement
for the reasonable cost of this overnight shipping. Semifinalists must be available
by phone or e-mail to assist in the re-rendering process, if needed. When the
Semifinalists’ sequences are re-rendered on an AMD Athlon 64 processor-based
system, AMD makes no guarantee that the re-rendering will match the originally
submitted sequence exactly. AMD may elect to show the Semifinalists’ sequences
at the AMD Athlon 64 launch events around the world beginning on September 23,
2003.
