Will the PCnet Mobile NDIS 3 based solution pass the Microsoft NDIS Certification tests?

Q:How do I view the driver error messages and also possible solutions?
A:Please refer to 'Section 7 Appendix B: Driver Error Messages' in the Manual.doc file (PCnet-Mobile Software Manual). It has information regarding the driver error messages, possible solutions and also how to view the error messages for Windows95 and WindowsNT.

Q:Windows 95 fails to recognize the PCnet Mobile PCMCIA card. What can I do to resolve this problem?
A:You may try one or more of the following options:

  • Make sure that the PCnet Mobile card is in a PCMCIA slot during boot. Remove and reinsert the card if necessary and reboot the system.
  • In Windows 95, Card and Socket services sometimes fail to initialize the card on the very first load. Please try to take the card out and re-insert it. That will cause the driver to reload. Alternatively, you can reboot the machine.

Q:When loading the PCnet MobileNDIS 3 driver in Windows 95, I see an error that indicates that the driver in encountering a "24K Memory Window not allocated". What can I do to resolve this problem?
A:You can change BIOS configuration by going to Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Device Manager-> System Devices->System Board extension for PnP BIOS->Resources.

Un-check 'Use automatic settings' checkbox and hit 'Change Settings' button.

That will free some memory in 640k-1M range and the driver will be able to load.

Please refer to Appendix B, Section 7.1 in Manual.doc file for more information.

Q:I am unable to install the NDIS3 miniport driver on ISA PnP adpater cards in Windows NT4.0 systems. The system reports conflict of resources. How do I resolve it?
A:For NDIS3 driver in Release 1.5 we do not support ISA cards on Windows NT4.0 systems without PnP BIOS present (since Win NT 4.0 is not PnP OS and relies on the BIOS for PnP device configuration).

To insure that PnP BIOS is present and that PCnet Mobile is configured correctly, please run Microsoft utility isolate.exe from DOS. Use obtained config parameters for PCnet Mobile in the NDIS3 driver properties window when you configure NT network.

Q:The NDIS3 driver for ISA PnP card on Windows NT does not load properly. Any suggestions?
A:You could try the following options:

1. Please make sure that you uncheck the "PCMCIA card" checkbox in the ISA WLAN adapter properties.
2. On Windows NT 4.0 systems you could use the Event Viewer to see the NDIS3 driver error messages.
3. Please refer to section 5.1'Installing The Ndis 3.x Miniport Driver' in the Manual.doc for additional information. Also please refer to Appendix B section 7.1 in the Manual.doc file for additional infornation on driver error messages and possible solutions.

Q:Will the PCnet Mobile NDIS 3 based solution pass the Microsoft NDIS Certification tests?
A:A number of Microsoft certification tests (NDISTEST) require a hundred percent packet delivery rate in order to pass. Because of the complexity of the wireless LAN test environment (operating over significantly less reliable media, dynamic topologies, media is unprotected from outside signals), coupled with radio limitations and high error rates, it is impossible to ensure a hundred percent packet delivery rate. As a result of this, the NDIS 3.x driver and the AMD/Harris/Celestica PCMCIA adapter fail the Microsoft certification test suite (NDISTEST).
