PCnet™ Family Software FAQs - OS/2
I tested the PermaNet Server feature and disconnected the Primary NIC and reconnected it shortly afterwards. I looked at the LANTRAN.LOG file, but I didn't see any error messages pertaining to the Primary NIC failure. What could be wrong?

I loaded two instances of the driver (one for each card) and I enabled the PermaNet Server feature for both drivers. Upon reboot, the drivers load normally, but the PermaNet Server feature doesn't work. Why?

I want to set a specific card as my Primary Adapter, but I don't know its slot number. How do I find it?

Q:I tested the PermaNet Server feature and disconnected the Primary NIC and reconnected it shortly afterwards. I looked at the LANTRAN.LOG file, but I didn't see any error messages pertaining to the Primary NIC failure. What could be wrong?
A:You must copy the PCNET.EXE file into a directory and then add a line in your config.sys to run the file. For example, run=C:pathPCNET.EXE

Q:I loaded two instances of the driver (one for each card) and I enabled the PermaNet Server feature for both drivers. Upon reboot, the drivers load normally, but the PermaNet Server feature doesn't work. Why?
A:When you use the PermaNet Server feature, you should only load one instance of the driver for a pair of cards. Upon reboot you'll see the configuration information for both adapters.

Q:I want to set a specific card as my Primary Adapter, but I don't know its slot number. How do I find it?
A:Configure the two cards as a pair and reboot the system. When the driver loads, you'll see the slot number for both adapters.

Note: The slot numbers can be left blank. However, if you set the primary card slot number, you must set the slot number for the secondary card as well.
