AMD Hosts Summit To Drive Energy Efficiency Awareness Wednesday, April 11, 2007
AMD underscored its leadership role in energy-efficient computing, hosting the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Energy Solutions Summit on April 9, at its Sunnyvale headquarters.
The summit brought together nearly 300 government leaders, journalists, industry innovators and executives from companies like Applied Materials, Lockheed Martin, Novellus and Sun Microsystems. They convened to discuss the vital role high-tech companies play in developing renewable energy and energy efficient solutions for consumers around the world to address energy supply and global climate change issues.
The event highlight was a moderated discussion on climate change, alternative energy and energy efficiency policy issues with U.S. Senator from California, Barbara Boxer, a national leader on environmental protection, and chair of the Senate’s Committee on Environment and Public Works, and John Hennessey, president of Stanford University. The summit also included a panel discussion on the various ways technology companies are driving innovations in areas ranging from solar and wind power technologies and environmentally sustainable transportation options, to energy efficiency in the data center.
In the first ever demonstration of its Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) electric car, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) showcased how customers could charge their electric vehicles at night and gain credit on their electricity bill by plugging the car in during the day, while simultaneously providing renewable energy to the power grid during peak hours.
The event received extensive print, television, radio and online coverage.
