Product Use and End of Life

In addition to reducing a products end-of-life impact through product content considerations, AMD technology can also extend the useful life of computers and motherboards. With the introduction of the AMD Opteron™ and AMD Athlon™ 64 microprocessors for server, workstation, desktop and portable PCs, AMD offers customers a computing solution that can address their current and future needs on the same system, thereby extending the life of that system. AMD 64™ technology allows users to run both 32- and 64-bit applications on the same computing platform. In addition, motherboards can often be reused when converting to AMD dual core technology. For example, Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processors can be inserted into existing 940-pin sockets that support 90nm products. AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core processors can be inserted into existing 939-pin sockets. A BIOS update is all that is required, saving time, costs and environmental impacts while increasing performance and value.
