Committed to Reducing Environmental Impact in Product Content

Material content is the greatest contributor to a component’s potential end-of-life EHS impact – and that’s why it’s a constant focus for AMD. Lead in electronic products has come under increased regulatory scrutiny due to the growing number of electronic products requiring end of life treatment and disposal. Additionally, global concerns regarding human health and environmental risks associated with hazardous substances has led the European Union to enact the Directive on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) which limits the use of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls or Polybrominated diphenyl ethers in electronic products. AMD's Statement on RoHs Compliance describes AMD’s commitment to reduce the hazardous content of its products and comply with the RoHS Directive.
In addition to finding alternatives to lead, AMD systematically reviews the EHS properties of materials we are considering for use in the chip package. An example of that process is detailed below:
