Angstrom Announces World's First Quad AMD Opteron™ Processor Model 850-Based Blade Server: The Titan64 Quadrablade™ 850

Boston, MA -- May 18, 2004 --Angstrom Microsystems, an AMD Opteron™ processor-based solutions company, is announcing the world's first blade server running on four AMD Opteron processors Model 850. These blade servers can be easily racked, providing the highest density of any 4P AMD Opteron processor-based server in a rack today -- 208 processors and 52 blades.

"Angstrom’s compute-hungry customers can take full advantage of the AMD Opteron processor Model 850 in the densest cluster-friendly form factor available today," said Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems. “With our patent-pending cooling technology, Angstrom enables scaling of high-volume deployments with the highest performing processors AMD has to offer.”

A Titan64 QuadraBlade 850 rack is comprised of four stacked nests, each nest housing 13 QuadraBlade 850s for a total of 4 x 13 blade, or 52 blades. Each blade is a four-processor cache coherent, shared memory (SMP) system with the option of 2 SCSI, IDE, SATA HDDs and high- speed interconnects such as Myrinet™ or Infiniband. Unlike other 4-way AMD Opteron processor solutions, Angstrom is the only vendor to provide AMD Opteron servers in an ultra-dense blade format.

"The Titan64 QuadraBlade 850 servers highlight the performance and investment protection available with AMD Opteron processor Model 850-based systems," said Ben Williams, vice president of Enterprise and Server/Workstation Business at AMD. "The Titan64 QuadraBlade 850 server provides Angstrom customers with a manageable and reliable HPC-specific cluster solution that can easily scale as more compute power is required."
