AMD Appoints Walid Maghribi President Of Memory Group

SUNNYVALE, CA -- February 6, 2001 --AMD today announced that Walid Maghribi has been promoted to the newly created position of president of the company's Memory Group. Maghribi was also elected a senior vice president and a corporate officer of AMD by the board of directors. The Memory Group, which had sales of more than $1.5 billion in 2000, produces flash memory devices for a broad range of applications, such as cellular telephones, set-top boxes, automotive systems, mobile Internet access devices, and Internet infrastructure equipment.

"This promotion is a recognition of Walid Maghribi's achievements and leadership as group vice president of the AMD Memory Group," said Hector de J. Ruiz, president and chief operating officer of AMD. "Under Walid's leadership, the Memory Group has consistently established audacious goals for itself - and consistently exceeded them. In 2000, the Memory Group grew sales by more than 100 percent to more than $1.5 billion. In his new role, we expect Walid will be in a position to make even greater contributions to the continued growth of AMD."

Maghribi, 48, joined AMD as a product line manager in 1986 and held several positions before being promoted to group vice president in April 1997. Before joining AMD, he was director of operations at Seeq Technologies. He also worked at National Semiconductor and Intel Corporation.

Maghribi received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from San Jose State University and a master's in computer science from Santa Clara University. He is based in Sunnyvale, Calif.
