AMD Appoints Dirk Meyer Head Of Computation Products Group

AUSTIN, TX -- January 22, 2001 --AMD today announced the appointment of Dirk Meyer as group vice president of its Computation Products Group (CPG). Meyer, 39, has been with AMD since 1996, most recently serving as vice president of engineering for CPG. In this capacity, Meyer led the team that designed and developed the AMD Athlon™ processor. Meyer will report directly to AMD President and Chief Operating Officer Hector de J. Ruiz.

"By far the most critical challenge facing AMD today is to continue to develop compelling new products that deliver a competitive advantage to our customers," said Ruiz. "The AMD Athlon™ processor is the single most important product in the history of AMD. To date, the AMD Athlon™ processor and the derivative AMD Duron™ processor have won more than 80 prestigious international awards. As the leader of the team that developed these products, Dirk Meyer has demonstrated that he is up to the challenge."

Before joining AMD, Meyer spent 10 years with Digital Equipment Corporation, where he was co-architect of the Alpha™ 21064 and Alpha™ 21264 microprocessors. He has also worked at Intel Corporation in its microprocessor design group.

Meyer received a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the University of Illinois and a master's in business administration from Boston University. He will continue to be based in Austin, Texas.
