AMD Adds to Portfolio of Networking Devices Designed for Temperature Extremes

-Networking IC products capable of operating in temperature extremes of -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius-

SUNNYVALE, CA -- July 24, 2000 --AMD today announced it is adding two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet devices and one Phoneline (HomePNA) device to its existing portfolio of networking products capable of operating in the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius industrial temperature range.

Industrial temperature devices, those that can function reliably in environments subject to extreme temperatures or restricted airflow, are used in an increasing number of products, including residential gateways, Internet access devices, and factory automation and industrial equipment. AMD's suite of industrial temperature products, including the new AMD 10/100Mbps Ethernet NetPHY™-4LP physical layer device (PHY), the PCnet-PRO™ controller, and the Phoneline (HomePNA) HomePHY™ device, are ideal for these types of uses.

"AMD has an extensive selection of networking products designed to work in the industrial range, and these additions give us the most comprehensive portfolio of industrial temperature products available in the market," said Michele McGregor, director of marketing for Networking Products at AMD. "As design engineers implement industrial temperature components into an increasing number of applications, AMD is in a leading position to meet the needs of this growing market."

About the HomePHY™ Device
The HomePHY device integrates HomePNA 1.1 PHY functions for 1Mbps data networking over existing residential telephone wiring, and a complete IEEE 802.3 physical layer for 10BASE-T operation. The HomePHY device is the only Phoneline (HomePNA) networking device in the marketplace today that meets the industrial temperature standard. The industrial temperature HomePHY device is ideal for applications such as Internet access equipment for multi-dwelling residential buildings. It is available in an 80-pin TQFP package.

About the NetPHY™-4LP PHY Device
The NetPHY™-4LP PHY device is a low-power device integrating four 10/100 Ethernet physical layer transceivers. It is fully IEEE 802.3u and Auto-Negotiation compliant. The NetPHY™-4LP is capable of supporting 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 100BASE-FX operation. It supports the Reduced MII (RMII™) for interfacing to other Ethernet devices. The industrial temperature NetPHY™-4LP PHY device is ideal for applications such as cellular/telecommunications base stations, as well as for equipment for military and avionic applications. It is available in a 100-pin PQR package.

About the PCnet-PRO™ Controller
The PCnet-PRO controller implements an IEEE 802.3-compliant Ethernet MAC with support for 10 or 100 Mbps, and a MII interface for connection to any standard 10/100 Mbps PHY device. The PCnet-PRO controller integrates a high-performance 32-bit PCI bus master interface. The PCnet-PRO can support up to 4MB of data storage, making it ideal for applications such as telecommunications equipment operating in remote locations under extreme temperatures. It is available in a 208-pin PQFP package.

Pricing & Availability
AMD is sampling all industrial temperature products now. The industrial temperature HomePHY is priced at $6.25; the industrial temperature NetPHY™-4LP device is priced at $7; the industrial temperature PCnet-PRO device is priced at $9.75, each in 10,000-unit quantities.

About AMD Networking
AMD is a leading supplier of end-to-end Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and Home Networking IC devices for adapters, switches, hubs and other network infrastructure equipment. A leading networking component supplier since 1984, AMD has shipped more than 250 million network ports in the past five years.
