The drivers enhance network availability, improve network manageability and administration, and reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the networked world. These drivers are offered free of charge with AMD's PCnet Ethernet controllers and target PC networking applications such as network interface cards (NICs) and LAN-on-the-motherboard designs.

Microsoft Windows Support
AMD works with Microsoft to ensure all AMD networking products are compatible with all of the Microsoft operating systems. In addition to Windows 2000, AMD's PCnet software supports Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows NT®, Windows NT Embedded and Windows CE operating systems. Microsoft certifies AMD's PCnet software drivers, and AMD regularly updates the drivers to meet Microsoft's latest operating system specifications, assuring AMD customers that their software supports applications incorporating a Microsoft operating system. The drivers are bundled with all of the Windows operating systems.

Linux Support
Third-party Linux software developers have supported AMD's PCnet Ethernet controllers for years, and the Linux open-source kernel includes a PCnet software driver. AMD has enhanced its basic PCnet Linux driver to support new features such as command-line network configuration. Red Hat and Caldera, two leading Linux operating system vendors, have certified the PCnet Ethernet drivers and are now shipping them with their Linux operating systems. AMD plans to continue enhancing the PCnet driver and working with third-party Linux vendors to ensure the driver will support forthcoming Linux operating system releases.

Availability
The new PCnet software drivers are available free of charge and are included with all Microsoft Windows 2000, and Red Hat and Caldera Linux operating systems being shipped today. The drivers are also available at no charge for download on the AMD Web site, http://www.amd.com/networking.

AMD plans to offer the complete PCnet software suite, including AlertIT™ software, on CD-ROM in the second quarter.
