AMD Enhances Network Management Offering With Updated Managed Performance Portfolio

Additional Technologies and Updates to Suite of Software Drivers Help Maximize Network Performance and Reduce Total Cost of Ownership

SUNNYVALE, CA -- March 15, 1999 --AMD today announced an update to its Managed Performance Portfolio (MPP) suite of software solutions designed to provide network administrators with the resources required for critical end-to-end management and control capabilities. The updated MPP includes new software drivers and support for extended network management technologies including Fast EtherChannel® for load balancing and link aggregation, AlertIT™ systems management technology that simplifies and extends the capabilities of an enterprise network administrator, and PermaNet™ server technology that enables uninterrupted data traffic through automatic failover to a secondary link in the event of a primary link failure. AMD's updated MPP also includes Unicenter® TNG™ Framework Enterprise Management solution by Computer Associates, which utilizes MPP components to provide a network administrator with remote network management capabilities. The comprehensive suite of software drivers, tools, and diagnostic aides works in conjunction, and is included at no cost, with the entire family of AMD PCnet™ controllers, including the recently announced PCnet-FAST III fully-integrated Fast Ethernet controller.

"The inclusion of additional management tools and drivers to the Managed Performance Portfolio enables our customers to offer highly advanced network interfaces supporting the latest management technologies capabilities that lower the cost of ownership of enterprise PCs," said Dr. Laila Razouk, vice president of the Network Products Division at AMD. "By extending the power and scope of the Managed Performance Portfolio, AMD provides a complete networking solution including comprehensive support for all of the key management features required in today's enterprise computing environment."

"Computer Associates is excited about partnering with AMD to bring enhanced alerting capabilities to network administrators," said Ken Farber, vice president, Business Alliances for Computer Associates. "By utilizing AMD's Managed Performance Portfolio, supporting Unicenter TNG Framework Enterprise Management software, network administrators are able to take advantage of a complete and robust management solution."

The Managed Performance Portfolio comprises the following modules to improve network performance and manageability.

Enhanced Device Drivers
The cornerstone of the Managed Performance Portfolio is an extensive suite of drivers software designed to seamlessly integrate with the PCnet family of controllers to provide an optimized networking solution. The enhanced drivers support the latest revisions of several Network Operating System vendors' specifications. Also included are the latest versions of Real-Time Operating System drivers for support of embedded applications. Diagnostic utilities within the device drivers enable users to view status and check the functionality of the Network Interface Cards (NIC).

AlertIT™ Technology
AlertIT technology provides remote monitoring and alerting of system configuration, component status, operating parameters, error conditions and other critical events and information. AlertIT technology vastly improves remote management and monitoring capability of an enterprise management system, which in turn helps simplify network management and reduces the total cost of ownership of the enterprise computing infrastructure.

PermaNet™ Server Technology
PermaNet Server technology has been enhanced to provide a complete and robust solution that helps maintain mission critical high bandwidth applications. PermaNet Server technology employs automatic failover to a secondary link to enable uninterrupted data traffic in the event of a primary link failure. Additionally, HotPlug capability allows a faulty link to be replaced without disrupting the link status. Support for Port Aggregation allows multiple links to be aggregated, thus increasing server bandwidth and improving throughput. AMD's PermaNet Server technology uses a standards-based implementation to assure compliance across the platformnetwork.

Network Alarm Clock Featuring Magic Packet™ Technology
AMD's Network Alarm Clock, featuring the patented Magic Packet technology, provides the ability to remotely power up a system. The Alarm Clock application enables system administrators to program remote wake-up of PCs over a LAN, optimize network activity and improve power management.

Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) Boot Code
PXE code enables a system to be remotely configured and optimized for complete network functionality right out of the box. Operating systems and other software can be remotely downloaded from a server, eliminating time consuming and expensive manual installations.

Desktop Management Interface (DMI) 2.0 Support
DMI 2.0 support simplifies desktop management by providing a common management interface, enabling all DMI 2.0 applications, operating systems and hardware to work together seamlessly. Having DMI 2.0 support provides a competitive advantage for equipment vendors and eases management and interoperability for IT managers.

Unicenter TNG Framework Enterprise Management Solution By Computer Associates
The Unicenter TNG Framework is offered as a software solution to extend and enhance network manageability. Unicenter TNG provides a common object oriented infrastructure to enhance visualization and administration of the network. The Framework solution is bundled at no additional cost in the Managed Performance Portfolio to and offers extended network management capability.

Price and Availability
The Managed Performance Portfolio of technologies is included free of charge with all of AMD's PCnet controllers and is available now.
