AMD Expands Low-Voltage Flash Memory Line to 1 Megabit
--Operates as Fast as 5.0-Volt Devices--
SUNNYVALE, CA -- April 20, 1998 --AMD today announced the availability of the 1 Megabit Am29LV001, the first member of a family of six new 2.7-volt only flash memories. These high-performance flash devices, available in both boot and uniform sector architectures, extend AMD's low-voltage family from 1 to 16 Megabit densities. The 1-, 2-and 4-Megabit products in this family, are the first AMD low-voltage flash available in small-form factor 32-pin PLCC and TSOP packages.
The Am29LV001 has a byte-wide, boot sectored configuration and is optimized for code storage in embedded applications. With a speed option of 45 nanoseconds, it is the first low-voltage flash memory device able to access data as quickly as the fastest 5.0-volt products available.
"With the strong market acceptance of our low-voltage flash products, we continue to broaden the product line with new densities and packaging options to better serve our customers," said Walid Maghribi, group vice president of AMD's Memory Group. "These new devices offer the ideal combination of low power and high performance in a small-form factor package."
Applications
AMD's 32 pin, 2.7-volt-only family addresses a broad base of portable, battery-powered applications requiring a small to moderate amount of code storage. Applications include electronic organizers, digital pagers, portable instrumentation and electronic security devices. These applications require low-voltage flash devices to support extended-life operation of alkaline and rechargeable batteries.
Features
Standard features include:
Extended 2.7- to 3.6-volt Operating Range
--Allows battery-powered systems to operate longer between battery replacement or recharging cycles.
--Single-power-supply operation for all read, program and erase operations.
Zero-Power Operation
--During normal operation, most portable systems have many inactive periods. AMD's unique power management system automatically puts the device into sleep mode during these inactive periods considerably reducing energy consumption and extending battery life.
High Performance
--As fast as 55 nanoseconds at full voltage range and 45 nanoseconds at regulated voltage range.
Advanced 0.32-Micron Flash Technology
--Provides the smallest die sizes allowing AMD to offer cost-competitive solutions.
--Based on the same process technology and architecture as AMD's other 2.7-volt-only flash products.
JEDEC/Industry Standard
Sector Architecture with Sector Protection
Embedded Algorithms
Superior Reliability
--1,000,000 Guaranteed Program/Erase Cycle Endurance
--20-year data retention
Package and Price
The Am29LV001 is available in a 32-pin TSOP and 32-pin PLCC. It is priced at $2.20 in quantities of 10,000.
