AMD Appoints New Chief Information Officer

SUNNYVALE, CA -- September 24, 1998 --AMD today announced that Randy Burdick has been named to the new position of chief information officer. As CIO, Burdick will oversee AMD's information technology and business systems organizations. Previously, he served as vice president of information technology and director of worldwide computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). Burdick will continue to report to Thomas M. McCoy, AMD senior vice president, general counsel, and year 2000 compliance officer.

Burdick joined AMD in 1991 as a senior manager of quality information systems and became director of worldwide CIM in 1993. Prior to joining AMD, he was director of manufacturing systems at Harris Semiconductor, where he deployed the first Unix-based systems in manufacturing and engineering analysis. Burdick has a master's degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, both from the University of South Florida. In 1986, he spent one year at the University of California-Berkeley as a visiting fellow.
