Barton has extensive experience in both the computer industry and corporate financial management. He joins AMD from Amdahl Corporation, where he served as vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining Amdahl, he spent 22 years with Digital Equipment Corporation, where his most recent position was vice president and chief financial officer of the Personal Computer Business Unit. Barton holds a master's degree in finance form Northeastern University as well as a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
