AMD Expands Commercial Distribution Network with Addition of Ingram Micro
New Sales Incentive Program Offers AMD resellers Trips to Indy 500
SUNNYVALE, CA -- February 16, 1998 --AMD today announced the expansion of its North American commercial distribution network with the addition of Ingram Micro the world's leading wholesale distributor of technology products and services. Ingram Micro will distribute the AMD-K6® processor, both the recently launched Processor In a Box (PIB) product and bulk tray product.
"Ingram Micro is consistently recognized by the North American reseller community as an outstanding distributor and we are very pleased to be associated with them," said David West, AMD's director of worldwide distributor operations. "The addition of Ingram Micro will allow us to further enhance our support of AMD resellers."
"We are pleased to offer the AMD-K6 processor to our reseller customers," said Jennifer Connolly, director of purchasing at Ingram Micro. "We look forward to helping AMD grow its business through the channel."
In conjunction with the expansion of its distributor network, AMD also announced today the launch of a sales incentive program, "$500 and the Indy 500." The program offers additional incentives to the AMD reseller community to purchase AMD-K6 Processors in a Box, by offering a chance to win one of 10 trips to the Indianapolis 500 race in May.
The "$500 and the Indy 500" program is tied directly to the industry-first joint rebate program between AMD and Microsoft® Corp. For each group of 50 AMD-K6 PIB-based systems sold with officially licensed versions of the Windows®95 operating system, U.S. or Canada-based VARs may submit the proper combination of AMD and Microsoft rebate coupons for up to $500 cash back. By redeeming coupons for the joint AMD/Microsoft cash rebate, qualified resellers will receive one entry in a random drawing for one of 10 trips to the Indianapolis 500. Dates of the program are February 16 through April 16. See contest rules at http://www.amd.com for more details.
"The broad acceptance of the AMD-K6 in the consumer market has helped build credibility and demand with our VARs' customers," said Dave Sheffler, vice president, channel sales and marketing. "By expanding our distribution network, offering smart products like the PIB, and sustaining two-way communication through our reseller program, AMD can offer those VARs a competitive edge in meeting their customer needs."
VARs and system integrators that sign up for the AMD reseller program receive a wide variety of promotional material, technical support, and various communication and information tools from AMD.
The PIB, which was launched last November, includes the AMD-K6/200 or 233 processor with heatsink, thermal grease, and fan attached. The product, distributed in a tamper-resistant shrink-wrapped box, comes with a three-year limited warranty and is available only through authorized distributors in North America.
"The Processor In a Box has proven to be a very popular product with our resellers and their customers," said Thomas Toles, AMD Field Marketing Manager. "The demand is peaking now for the 200 and 233 speed grades, and our resellers are delighted with the ease of use the PIB, the extended warranty, and the value proposition the AMD-K6 processor offers."
