--Lander™, a Unique Solar Flight Adventure and Rollcage, a High-Octane Racing Simulator to Debut in Early 1999--
LONDON -- September 5, 1998 --AMD today announced that Psygnosis, Europe's leading electronic games software publisher and developer, is entering discussions about optimizing some of its upcoming gaming titles for 3DNow!™ technology. The first two titles, Lander™ and Rollcage will be available early in 1999.
"We welcome Psygnosis's desire to optimize hit titles like Lander, and Rollcage for 3DNow!™ technology," said Dana Krelle, vice president, marketing, computation products group. "We believe each of these titles published by Psygnosis will prove to be premier games in meeting the developers' demand for accurate physics simulations and ultimately the gamers' desire for totally immersive environments."
"Recent advances in PC architecture such as 3D graphics accelerators, AGP, and the 100-MHz system bus enable special 3D rendering effects," said Dominic Mallinson, Psygnosis' Technical Director. "The AMD-K6®-2 processor represents a crucial breakthrough in enhancing floating point performance. Psygnosis is keen to utilise the 3DNow!™ technology in our games to offer the player an even better gaming experience."
Psygnosis: Dedication To Leading-Edge Game Development
The first Psygnosis title to incorporate 3DNow!™ technology optimizations will be Lander. In Lander, the player guides a ship over a multitude of planetary environments across the Solar System. Experiencing a unique solar flight adventure, the player must acquire the game-play skills necessary to maneuver the Lander craft through difficult obstacles and traps on both the planetary surfaces and in subterranean caverns and installations.
"Lander's game-play values send the adrenaline thumping and draw you ever further into this deep and complex game," said Mallinson.
A non-stop battle for road supremacy, Rollcage includes 11 single-player tracks in four unique racing environments, taking the action away from familiar climbs and off to strange new worlds, where the unique effects of alien gravity and local weather can hugely affect the driving conditions. Furthermore, three specifically designed tracks have been included for multi-player gaming. LAN and Internet play is supported, but a split-screen mode is also included, to do away with the need for machine link-ups.
Developed by Attention To Detail, Rollcage is as stomach churning as a rollercoaster ride, as demanding as championship racing. Rollcage is probably the most accessible yet relentlessly challenging racing experience ever. Remember, it's not the taking part that matters. It's the winning.
About 3DNow!™ Technology
3DNow!™ technology is the first innovation to the x86 processor architecture that significantly enhances 3D graphics, multimedia, and other floating-point-intensive PC applications to enable the emerging "realistic computing platform." 3DNow!™ is a set of 21 new instructions that use SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) and other performance enhancements to open the performance bottleneck in the 3D graphics pipeline between the host CPU and the 3D graphics accelerator card.
With 3DNow!™ technology, more powerful hardware and software applications can bring a new level of 3D performance and realism to Microsoft® Windows® compatible PCs. Microsoft's DirectX 6.0 API (Applications Programming Interface) is optimized for 3DNow! technology enabling software developers to achieve enhanced 3D performance for applications that use the floating-point-intensive geometry functions that are performed with Direct 3D. Applications written to Microsoft's new DirectX 6.0 API will seamlessly take advantage of the fast geometry processing power of 3DNow! technology. 3DNow!™ works hand-in-hand with leading 3D graphics accelerators to achieve faster frame rates on high-resolution scenes, improved physical modeling of real-world environments, realistic 3D graphics and images, and theater-quality audio and video.
3DNow!™ technology is compatible with today's existing x86 software. Leading game companies, including Microsoft, Epic Megagames and Rage, along with productivity software offerings from IBM, Viewpoint DataLabs and Pegasus, deliver titles supporting 3DNow!™ technology. Vendors continue to provide support and plan to deliver additional optimized titles.
