AMD Announces its First 32-MEGABIT Flash Memory Device

AMD Announces its First 32-MEGABIT Flash Memory Device

SUNNYVALE, CA -- June 22, 1998 -- AMD today announced the Am29F032, a 5.0 volt-only, 32-Megabit byte-wide flash memory device, targeted for high-density code and data storage applications.

"The Am29F032 is a cost-effective flash memory solution for high-density applications requiring the reliability of proven NOR technology," said Walid Maghribi, group vice president of AMD's memory group. "For these applications, AMD offers a minimum endurance rating of 1 million cycles and 20-year data retention. With data access as fast as 70 nanoseconds, the device is also ideal for applications that require the highest performance."

Maghribi continued, "The Am29Fxxx family continues to provide designers the broadest family of 5.0 volt flash memories now ranging from 1 to 32 Megabits. AMD plans to continue to expand it's high-density flash product offering with the introduction of a 64 Megabit NOR device next year."

Applications
The Am29F032 addresses high-density code and data storage applications, such as solid-state disk drives, embedded memory arrays, computer peripherals, telecom and networking applications.

Features
Standard features include:

  • High Performance
    • Data access speeds as fast as 70 nanoseconds

  • Small Package Footprint
    • 40-pin TSOP offers 30 percent board space reduction compared to 56-pin TSOP solutions

  • Superior Reliability
    • Meets AMD's 1 million program/erase cycle endurance criteria
    • Meets AMD's 20-year data retention criteria

  • Easy Upgrade
    • Footprint compatible and electrically compatible with AMD's Am29F016

  • Single Power Supply Operation
    • 5.0 volt-only using AMD's patented negative gate erase technology

  • Advanced 0.32-Micron Flash Technology
    • Provides the smallest die sizes allowing AMD to offer cost-competitive high-density solutions

Package and Availability
The Am29F032 is sampling now with volume production in Q3 1998. The device is offered in a 40-pin TSOP and 44-pin SO. The 120 nanosecond version is $15.50 in quantities of 10,000.
