DIGITAL Uses AMD-K6™ MMX™ Enhanced Processor In New Venturis™ Desktop PCs
AUSTIN, TX -- June 9, 1997 --AMD today announced that DIGITAL Equipment Corporation will use the AMD-K6™ MMX™ enhanced processor in its Venturis™ desktop computer family. The new AMD-K6 processor-based Venturis FX-2 systems will be among the best value desktop systems in the industry for commercial computing environments.
DIGITAL will use the AMD-K6 processor, running at clock speeds from 166MHz to 233MHz, in the Venturis product line. The new systems, with estimated U.S. selling prices starting at $1,250, offer outstanding performance for corporate personal computer users.
"The excellent performance and price of the AMD-K6 processor enable DIGITAL to deliver expanded choices for value desktop systems," said Patti Foye, vice president and general manager, commercial desktop business segment in DIGITAL's PC Business Unit. "The Venturis FX-2, with the AMD-K6 processor, is ideal for customers who want the maximum performance for their IT dollars."

The new systems include the Intel 430TX PCI chip set, three DIMM sockets, 64-bit SDRAM interface, a 256KB pipeline-burst secondary cache and system memory expandable to 256MB. Pre-installed software includes Microsoft® Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 operating systems, and DIGITAL ClientWORKS™ systems management and control software.
