AMD-K6™ MMX™ Enhanced Processors to be Used in IBM Aptiva PCs
SUNNYVALE, CA -- August 18, 1997 --AMD today announced that IBM's Consumer Division plans to use AMD-K6™ MMX™ enhanced processor technology in selected models of the IBM Aptiva line of personal computers.
Terms were not disclosed.
"AMD is excited about working closely with one of the world's premier personal computer companies," said Vinod Dham, group vice president of AMD's Computation Products Group. "This relationship further validates the growing acceptance and value of the AMD-K6 processor as well as AMD's capability as a world-class supplier of Microsoft® Windows® compatible processors."
"After exhaustive review and testing, we have concluded that the K6 processor has met IBM's standards for quality, reliability and industry compatibility," said James A. Firestone, general manager of IBM's Consumer Division. "We look forward to offering new IBM Aptiva personal computers using AMD's technology."
Specific IBM Aptiva product introductions incorporating the K6 processor will be the subject of subsequent IBM announcements.
