AMD Flash Card Products Supported by TrueFFS® Software

AMD Flash Card Products Supported by TrueFFS® Software

SUNNYVALE, CA -- March 24, 1997 --AMD announced today that TrueFFS® software from M-Systems Inc. now supports AMD flash products, including the AMD Miniature Card and PCMCIA Flash Cards.

TrueFFS, the leading implementation of the FTL (Flash Translation Layer) industry standard for flash file management, enables data transfer between personal computers and portable consumer products, such as digital cameras and personal digital assistants (PDAs). TrueFFS is available for a wide variety of operating systems, including Windows® 95, Windows CE, various Unix platforms, and x86 platforms.

FTL allows linear flash cards and flash arrays to fully emulate hard drives, delivering high performance, low-power-consumption data storage for portable applications. Since it is implemented in software, FTL eliminates the need for Advanced Technical Architecture (ATA) hardware overhead, therefore presenting a more cost-effective solution for flash data storage.

"AMD is pleased to have M-Systems' TrueFFS software support for its flash products," said Walid Maghribi, vice president and general manager of AMD's Non-Volatile Memory Division. "We believe FTL will play a very important role in the continued adoption of flash as a mass storage medium forembedded systems and digital consumer products."

"M-Systems is pleased that AMD, a leader in flash memory, has chosen TrueFFS to support all their flash card products," said Chuck Schouw, president of M-Systems, Inc. "TrueFFS, the de facto standard of the flash translation layer (FTL), now offers support for all leading flash vendors."

As an industry leader in flash, AMD offers its C-series and D-series flash memory PC cards in densities ranging from 1 to 32 Megabytes, and also AMD Miniature Cards in 3- ad 5-volt solutions up to 8 Megabytes.
