NOW Micro Launches Frontier X850 Series of Servers
Saint Paul, Minn. -- March 6, 2006 --Today, NOW Micro, Inc. (Saint Paul, MN) announced a new series of servers and workstations based on Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ processor Models 185, 285, and 885. The Frontier X850 Series of workstations and servers are available in three versions that cater specifically to the target usage model.
The Frontier 1850 with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 185 (with ECC unbuffered memory support) for uni-processor workstations and servers, the Frontier 2850 with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 285 for high performance dual-processor workstations and servers, and the Frontier 8850 with Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 885 for enterprise-level servers up to 8-way, which rounds out the X850 series. The Frontier X850 servers featuring the AMD Opteron™ processor Models 885 and 285 are available immediately worldwide. Systems featuring the AMD Opteron processor Model 185 are expected to be available in mid-March 2006.
“The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Models 185, 285 and 885 enable us to develop server and workstation solutions that take performance to the next level. With the increased computing power on a single server, customers can expect a significant upswing in ROI,” says NOW Micro’s President Patrick Finn.
“The efficiency and dependability of the new AMD Opteron processor-based systems are impressive and the price/ performance ratio that the AMD processors provide boosts the bottom line. These products are optimized to compete in an market, where turn around time and tight budgets are the norm,” says Charles Meyer of Wet Cement Productions.
“NOW Micro has a long-standing relationship with AMD and we are very encouraged by the advances made to their product lines,” said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “NOWMicro’s customers can look forward to a powerful combination of performance, performance-per-watt and manageability contained within our leading-edge processors. We look forward to continued close collaboration with NOW Micro.”
The AMD Opteron processor with Direct Connect Architecture helps eliminate the bottlenecks inherent in a traditional front-side bus architecture by directly connecting the processors, the memory controller and the I/O to the central processor unit to enable improved overall system performance and efficiency. AMD’s native dual-core implementation integrates two cores on a single die providing better efficiency and performance than competitive x86 dual-core implementations. NOW Micro has a long history with AMD collaborating on server and workstation solutions dating back to the introduction of the AMD Opteron processor several years ago. Today, NOW Micro continues to work very closely with AMD in developing, launching, and supporting AMD Opteron processor-based server, workstation, and now, cluster / High Performance Computing solutions.
