Atipa Adopts Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ Processors in New Line of Vision Servers
AMD Opteron Processor Boosts Servers’ Performance-per-Watt and Total Cost of Ownership Benefits
Lawrence, Kansas -- August 15, 2006 --Atipa Technologies, an established high performance computing (HPC) vendor, announced today that it will be adding Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ processors to the Atipa Vision server line. Atipa Technologies is the high performance computing division of Microtech Computers Inc., a technology pioneer since 1986 designing power-pervasive, performance-critical servers and workstations. The new line of rack-dense two-socket and four-socket servers will be available immediately.
Powered by Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors, Atipa’s Vision server line leverages AMD’s revolutionary Direct Connect Architecture, which eliminates bottlenecks for overall better system performance. Built on a consistent architecture, AMD Opteron processors, with energy-efficient DDR2 memory and 95 watts standard thermal design power, define a new standard in performance-per-watt capabilities. With the quad-core ready socket, Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors are designed to provide seamless dual-core to quad-core upgradeability in the same thermal infrastructure.

Building off of established performance-per-watt leadership, AMD is extending its lead in x86-based virtualization with AMD-Virtualization™ (AMD-V™). Founded on Direct Connect Architecture, AMD-V increases performance with multi-core capabilities and fast memory access, while simplifying virtualization software and reducing CPU overhead. The Direct Connect Architecture allows guests to run at near-native speed, switches efficiently between host and guests, and provides efficient isolation of virtual machine memory with an integrated memory controller.
