HPC Systems Announces Support for Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ Processors Across Entire System Line

New System Line Offers Performance and Cost-Savings for the High Performance Computing Market

San Jose, Calif. -- August 15, 2006 --HPC Systems, a leading provider of high performance computing (HPC) servers and workstations, today introduced its new line of HPC systems featuring Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ processors. This new line of systems represents some of the highest performing x86 systems available, ideally suited for customers requiring excellent price/performance for handling intense computational workloads, ranging from individual workstations to enterprise-level clusters. As an AMD Solution Provider, HPC Systems consistently offers its customers new AMD technologies for leading-edge server performance.

Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture offer industry-leading performance-per-watt, maintaining consistent 95W standard thermal design power with high-performing, low-power DDR2 memory. Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors also provide improved business functionality and flexibility with features like AMD Virtualization™ (AMD-V™) to increase performance with multi-core capabilities and fast memory access, and are quad-core ready, offering seamless dual-core to quad-core upgradeability in the same thermal infrastructure.

“Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors make significant strides in advancing performance-per-watt and x86 virtualization leadership,” said Jim Bowen, Director, Systems Engineering, HPC System. “The combination of DDR2 compatibility and support for upcoming quad-core processors will prove invaluable to users in the high performance computing field. At the same time, the new virtualization features will allow far better utilization and management of computer resources by system administrators.”

“The collaboration between HPC Systems and AMD benefits customers who demand high performance computing solutions at a reduced total cost of ownership (TCO),” said Pat Patla, director, Server/Workstation Marketing, AMD (NYSE: AMD). “The Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors provide the necessary platform for delivering industry-leading performance-per-watt capabilities, as well as improved x86 virtualization and a seamless upgrade path to quad-core in 2007, providing additional TCO benefits.
