Avnet Computing Components Recognized as AMD Distributor of the Year
Success Driven Through White Box Solution Sales and Expanded Market Opportunities for AMD Opteron™ and AMD Athlon™ 64 Processors
Phoenix -- April 26, 2004 --Avnet Computing Components, a division of global technology distributor Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT), was recently recognized as AMD’s (NYSE: AMD) top-performing distributor for 2003. Avnet Computing Components holds the number one distribution market share position for AMD’s microprocessors in North America, Europe and Asia, and has doubled sales of AMD Opteron™ processors quarter-over-quarter since the processor’s launch in April 2003. The Avnet division achieved this leadership position in the industry by creating growth opportunities in the channel for AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon™ 64 processors by selling the processors as a part of complete white box computing solutions for system builders, value-added resellers (VARs) and independent software vendors (ISVs).
“Our ability to generate increased demand in new markets for complete white box solutions enabled us to become AMD’s distributor of the year for 2003,” said George Condon, executive vice president of Avnet Computing Components. “We’re seeing a wider variety of vertical markets and applications deploying white box solutions due to the reliability, efficiency and compatibility of AMD64 technology-based processors. The high-performance microprocessor market has the potential to grow significantly as additional 64-bit software applications continue to come to market. Avnet Computing Components is positioned to take advantage of this growth by delivering custom, simultaneous 32- and 64-bit solutions built specifically for our customers’ needs using top-of-the-line components.”
Avnet Computing Components has a solutions-based approach to selling the AMD Opteron processor for white box servers and workstations, and the AMD Athlon 64 processor for white box desktops, workstations and notebooks. AMD processors are well suited for education, government, commercial, retail, gaming, entertainment, video editing and corporate enterprise solutions. System builders, VARs and ISVs can quickly and easily configure AMD products into complete custom solutions through Avnet Computing Components’ online system configuration tool, QuickSource. With its intuitive, easy-to-use interface, QuickSource provides validated white box configurations built with a variety of compatible components from leading manufacturers including AMD, Celestica, Micron, Tyan, Seagate, and Newisys, which saves its customers time in product research, development, sourcing and testing.
