Angstrom Announces TOP500 Supercomputer Rankings of Titan64 SuperBlade™ Clusters Using AMD Opteron™ Processors

Boston, MA -- June 21, 2004 --Angstrom Microsystems, the AMD Opteron™ processor specialist company, is announcing rankings of number 74 and number 228 on the Top500.org Supercomputer list. Both systems are powered by the groundbreaking AMD Opteron processor and are deployed as clusters of blade servers called Titan64 SuperBlades. These blade servers are easily racked and provide exceptional cooling to significantly improve cluster reliability and scalability.

The University of Wuppertal cluster in Germany is ranked number 74 and is the largest AMD Opteron processor-based installation in Europe. With 1024 AMD Opteron processors, the University of Wuppertal cluster is the fourth largest AMD64 deployment on the Top500 list. The number 228 ranking cluster is NIH-funded and located at the University of Utah. It was one of the first AMD Opteron processor-based supercomputer installations.

“Titan64 SuperBlades incorporate quality and leading-edge designs that take full advantage of the faster memory throughput and scaling advantages of the AMD Opteron processor and Direct Connect Architecture,” said Ben Williams, vice president of Enterprise and Server/Workstation Business at AMD. “AMD is proud to have Angstrom Microsystems as a leading supporter and specialist in AMD64 solutions.”

“It is no surprise that in a little over one year, the AMD Opteron processor is the solution of choice in the high performance computer market,” said Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems. “AMD’s relentless drive to provide the highest performing processors enables Angstrom to continually increase its ranking on the Top500 list and satisfy an ever-growing customer base.”

Angstrom Microsystems is a high-performance computing (HPC) company providing AMD64 expertise and knowledge of HPC software in the bio-informatics, scientific computing, financial modeling, graphics rendering, and oil and gas industries. Angstrom enhances clustering technology for these markets with remote management software and LinuxBIOS expertise. Angstrom Microsystems has announced the world's first blade server running on four AMD Opteron processors: the Titan64 QuadraBlade 850™. These ultra-cool blade servers can be easily racked, providing the highest density of any AMD Opteron processor-based server in a rack today -- 208 processors and 52 blades.
