Opsware And AMD Partner To Provide Automated Management Of AMD Opteron™ Processor-Based Systems

Opsware IT Automation Software Provides Deep Automation Capabilities Lowering TCO of AMD Opteron™ Processor-Based Servers

New York, NY -- April 21, 2005 --Opsware Inc. (NASDAQ: OPSW), the leading provider of IT automation and utility computing software, today announced an alliance with AMD (NSYE: AMD) to provide deeper automation capabilities for AMD Opteron™ processor-based systems with Opsware’s industry-leading IT automation software. The collaboration can provide IT organizations with a highly flexible and scalable solution for next-generation performance, and delivers a low cost of ownership of AMD Opteron processor-based systems.

According to IDC, AMD Opteron processor-based systems are gaining wide market acceptance with over 194,000 shipments in 2004, a 457% increase from 2003.* The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor, based on AMD64 technology, can provide the foundation for a unified IT infrastructure. As AMD Opteron processor-based systems are increasingly adopted across the enterprise, the need for automated management is critical. Opsware's Server Automation System (SAS) 5 provides deep support for AMD Opteron processor-based systems including provisioning of both 32- and 64-bit operating systems and complete lifecycle management of the entire software stack on AMD Opteron processor-based servers. Opsware Server Automation System 5 eases provisioning and deployment of servers and reduces the cost of ongoing management of these systems. Opsware SAS can also enable enforcement of best practices across legacy systems.

“Opsware automation is an excellent complement to AMD Opteron processor-based systems, enabling IT organizations to further leverage their hardware and software investments by providing the highest levels of efficiency and performance,” said Pat Patla, director, server/workstation marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD. “The Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor with Direct Connect Architecture offers industry-leading performance per watt, and provides an incredibly reliable platform for enterprises to holistically manage their mission-critical applications.”

“AMD’s dual-core technology is at the forefront of its industry, enabling IT organizations to benefit from faster, high-performance computing power,” said Tim Howes, CTO of Opsware Inc. “Using Opsware to automate the management of AMD Opteron processor-based systems allows enterprises to begin realizing the benefits of utility computing including reduced TCO, operational agility and improved productivity.”
