Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Selects Cray XT3 Computer System to Accelerate Scientific Research
SEATTLE, WA -- April 6, 2005 --Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (NASDAQ: CRAY) today announced that the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) has selected the new Cray XT3™ massively parallel processing (MPP) system as the main system for its high-performance computing facility.
JAIST, one of Japan's premier academic research centers, will use the new computer system to speed advances in the development of new algorithms for massively parallel computers, large-scale simulations and visualization in nanotechnology and biomechanics, and computational science.
Cray will install the Cray XT3 system with 372 AMD Opteron™ processors at the JAIST facility near Kanazawa City, Ishikawa, Japan.
"The excellent scalability features and highly balanced system design of the Cray XT3, as well as its excellent price-performance, were our main reasons for selecting this system," said Teruo Matsuzawa, Ph.D, director of the JAIST Center for Information Science and manager of JAIST's supercomputer facility. "Over the past decade, JAIST has built considerable expertise in massively parallel algorithms and applications. The Cray XT3 system suits our needs perfectly."
